Start Timed TestStart instantly with Mock Test 1 — a complete, timed IELTS mock test online covering Listening, Reading, and Writing. No PDF. No sign-up required for the free test.
Simply completing a mock test without a structured review process rarely improves your score. Research on test preparation shows that deliberate analysis of mistakes — not just repetition — is what drives band-score gains.
Sit at a desk, remove distractions, start the timer, and do not pause. Knowing how you perform under pressure is the whole point.
After marking, group wrong answers by type: vocabulary gap, time pressure, misread instruction, or genuine knowledge gap. Each has a different fix.
For Reading and Listening, re-read the passage section that contains the answer. Understand why each distractor is wrong — this builds pattern recognition.
IELTS Writing is scored on Task Achievement, Coherence & Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range & Accuracy. Identify which criterion costs you the most marks.
Space out your mock tests to allow time for targeted practice between sittings. Cramming back-to-back tests without targeted work produces diminishing returns.
Listening
Writing answers during the recording instead of using the 30-second preview time to predict word types and context.
Reading
Reading every word of the passage before looking at questions. Skim first, then search for specific answers.
Writing
Spending more than 20 minutes on Task 1. Task 2 carries double the marks — allocate your time accordingly.
Speaking
Giving short, rehearsed answers. Examiners reward spontaneity and the ability to develop ideas naturally.
Forget PDFs and answer keys. Our online IELTS practice test runs directly in your browser — just like the real computer-delivered exam.
Countdown timer matches official IELTS time limits for every section — no pausing allowed.
Answer questions in an interface that mirrors the official IELTS computer-delivered test.
Get your Listening and Reading band score the moment you submit — no waiting required.
Once you begin the mock test, the timer starts and cannot be paused. Reserve at least 2 hours and 45 minutes of uninterrupted time. A desktop or laptop is strongly recommended.
Completing a test is only half the work. Understanding why an answer is correct — and how it maps to a band score — is where real improvement happens.
See Band 7–9 model answers for Task 1 and Task 2 with annotation of why each answer scores high.
Audio and transcript examples for all three IELTS Speaking parts with fluency and lexical notes.
Understand exactly how each response is scored on the official 9-band scale.
| Band Score | Listening (out of 40) | Reading Academic (out of 40) |
|---|---|---|
| Band 9 | 39–40 correct | 39–40 correct |
| Band 8 | 35–38 correct | 35–38 correct |
| Band 7 | 30–34 correct | 30–34 correct |
| Band 6 | 23–29 correct | 23–29 correct |
| Band 5 | 16–22 correct | 15–22 correct |
Does your essay fully address all parts of the task? For Task 1, have you accurately described the main trends? For Task 2, have you presented a clear position supported by relevant ideas?
Is your essay logically organised with a clear progression of ideas? Do you use cohesive devices (linking words, pronouns) accurately without over-relying on them?
Do you use a wide range of vocabulary with precision and natural collocation? Minor spelling errors are penalised lightly; systematic errors reduce your score significantly.
Do you use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures accurately? A single complex sentence used correctly can demonstrate more range than ten simple ones.
